BIOSELECT originated from the initiative of teacher Giselle Furtado, from the Volta Redonda public school system, who recognized the need to engage students in the collective care of and shared responsibility for the school environment. By introducing discussions on cleanliness, selective waste collection, and waste management, the educator realized the urgency of the topic and sought ways to make it more relatable, interesting, and meaningful for the students.
To turn this idea into reality, she contacted Flavio Costa, coordinator of the Technical Course in Systems Development at ColΓ©gio Pedro II in Rio de Janeiro. This partnership sparked ideas on how computing and technology could encourage more active participation among young people.
The challenge was presented to the technical course students, who proposed a solution aligned with what they enjoy creating most: a digital game. Thus, BioSelect came to lifeβa challenging, fun, and educational game designed to transform learning about sustainability into an interactive and engaging experience. More than just software, BioSelect reflects the union of education, technology, and creativity, demonstrating how collaboration among teachers, schools, and students can turn a real-world challenge into a solution built by the students themselves.
